The North Face jackets do a better job of keeping you both warm and dry. Their cotton and wool attract damp. Cotton next to your skin will absorb your sweat and so leave you feeling chilled and damp. Their best quality synthetic fabric is built to wick moisture away from your skin and encourage the moisture to travel to the next layer. This is what is known as "breathing". The fabric allows the moisture produced by sweat and exercise to pass through the fabric, and the fabric doesn't trap the moisture and become damp. A organic fabric such as cotton doesn't do this satisfactorily, and will get damp over a period of time.
High quality synthetic fabrics are normally costlier. However if you allow for the cost of the higher quality ski wear over the term of the ski clothing you'll find the fact that additional cost isn't so much. That's because the best quality fabrics will commonly last for much longer than reduce quality copies, so though you are paying more initially you are buying skiwear that will outlive the cheaper ski the north face outlet clothing, and will purchase itself in the long term. There are lots of fabrics that are copies of the prime quality fabrics, but don't perform too or last as long.
Still any new climbing film is cause for celebration and the story this one tells is one of the great narratives in mountaineering history. It does, of course, have a tragic inevitability but I won't spoil the ending if you don't know the story. I look forward to seeing it next month. Look here for a complete review before its American release date on Friday, January 29.
Towering over 5000 feet above you on the Eiger Trail, the north face outlet of the Eiger is one of the world's most challenging and deadly rock faces. I'm an armchair climber, I've read several books on climbing the Eiger and viewed Clint Eastwood's "The Eiger Sanction," based on an excellent book by Trevanian. You need binoculars to pick out the climbers on the route. The rock face is so vast and you lose all sense of perspective until you find the tiny specks climbing it.
